Welcome to my photographic world, where each click is a unique and fluid expression of movement, in harmony with bodies and emotions that intertwine with the space.

Enthalpy

Enthalpy is a thermodynamic function that calculates the heat involved in isobaric processes, that is, processes that are maintained at constant pressure. It is the measure of the total energy contained in a system, which can be released or absorbed during a process. It is in the vastness of CEASA, located in Irajá, in the North Zone of the city of Rio de Janeiro, that this thermodynamics of time on urban life takes place. As the second largest Supply Center in Latin America, this space becomes the epicenter where rustic life and the essence of the metropolis intertwine in a vital dance in a vibrant and incessant way. The word enthalpy, which is derived from the Greek, enthalpein, meaning “to heat”, appears in this search of mine from the encounter with the grandeur of this unplanned journey, which revealed itself as an indissoluble link between production and consumption, heat and energy, as a temple of encounters and transformations. The essay with 15 photographs is unpublished and has never been exhibited in its entirety.

Trap to capture a fish's thought

This work explores the historical and symbolic relationship between water and the Maré community, connecting the past of a region rich in biodiversity with the challenges of the present. It reaffirms the importance of water as a universal good and a right for all, while highlighting the impact of environmental degradation on the peripheral areas that inhabit the riverbanks. By incorporating authors from Maré, the work exalts the intellectuality and knowledge of the favela, reinforcing that, even when water and knowledge are “captured” in a trap, they can never be truly contained — they continue to flow and inspire new generations from the waters of everyday life and the riverbanks. The installation, composed of stacks of books and a container with water collected from fishing colonies, symbolizes the flow of knowledge and wisdom in the favela. The books by authors such as Marielle Franco, Eliana Sousa Silva and Andreza Jorge bring to light voices that resonate with the struggles and achievements of Maré, while the water represents the continuity of ancestral memory and the cultural resistance that mark this community. The work denounces the environmental degradation of Guanabara Bay and, at the same time, celebrates the intellectuality and knowledge of the favelas, reinforcing that knowledge, like water, cannot really be captured and contained.

Imaginary Biographies

In this contemporary series of portraits of black favela residents, technical and aesthetic elements that were produced in Brazil are experimented with; however, the difference is that they are problematizing and contrasting the present and the past in the images, in order to suggest a discussion, above all, of black protagonism in the contemporary peripheral space.

The basic text for the construction of this work [Pretos, by Mc Martina], therefore, is presented from the perspective of a black woman from the outskirts, with the favela as the backdrop and the main objective being the exaltation and empowerment of black people in the face of the structural racism of Brazilian society. Thus, it is necessary to remove the stigmatization of the black body on the margins and, as a consequence, to resignify struggle and resistance. As a photographer and favela resident, I consider it extremely important to address this protagonism for an urgent and latent ethnic-racial discussion present in peripheral spaces.
